Lid easily opens and leaks August 30, 2010 Vikas K. (Chicago, IL USA) I've had the older version of this mug for years. I'd walk over a mile to the train in the dead of winter in Chicago with this clipped to the outside of my bag. The coffee would still be warm/hot and nothing leaded despite all the jostling. I purchased a new one recently and noticed it had been redesigned. The looks were the same or better, but the first time I tried to use it, the lid popped open and spilled. The previous model took a bit of effort to open and it should since it's intended to be hung by a clip rather than held upright.
If you can find the old, vacuum sealed version, grab it, but skip this new one.
Best Travel Mug on the Planet! August 22, 2010 Anita L. Peake (Northern Nevada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my second Contigo mug. My original one that I got years ago at "Costco" still keeps hot liquid hot and does better at keeping things colder for hours and hours. This new updated "version" now keeps your cofee hot for 4 hours, and icewater cold for 12.
This new edition mug is the newer better format. For those who think paying $20 for a mug is too much, let me assure you that it is the BEST travel mug I've ever tried (I've thrown out many, many mugs that make guarantees but don't deliver. I will have this mug with me, happily using it, everyday, all day for the next decade.
You will NOT be disappointed in this mug and you'll want to buy more!
No insulation August 7, 2010 brightlake I ordered this mug because it was supposed to be one of the best for keeping beverages hot or cold. I use the mugs to keep my drinks cold. My old mug, a ceramic wide-base one that I got from a CVS store, had been dropped and the lid was broken. I could put ice in it and it would still have ice in it 6-8 hours later. The ice was completely melted from the Contigo within an hour. Guess I will keep looking. Just wish someone still made the ceramic ones; I can't find it anywhere!
are there several different versions of this mug out there? July 30, 2010 L. Connock There must be several different versions of this mug out there. That is the only thing I can gather from people's reviews. We just bought ours from Target a couple weeks ago. It is the stainless steel version, NOT the styrofoam insulated. My opinion is that it keeps coffee almost too hot. I have a cup cooling on the counter right now before I can drink it! My husband begs to differ, he likes his piping hot. The insulating properties on ours is great. It keeps a cup hot for a very long time. I have had other mugs before where it was recommended to heat the interior with hot water prior to pouring in coffee. If yours does not keep coffee hot for long, I would recommend this. For ours, husband tried that and found that the coffee was TOO hot.
As far as keeping stuff cold, I was emptying ours out in the sink the next day after a cold drink was in it and it still had a few ice cube remnants in it!
Now, in case you are wondering why I only gave such a wonderful cup 3 stars, well, after 2 weeks the little molded plastic knobbies that keep the flip top in place has broken off, rendering the lid useless, atleast for sealing that is. I am hoping the company will send me a replacement free of charge. The good news is atleast the company sells replacement lids, at $5 a pop that is!
Good Buy April 12, 2010 V. Price (USA) I bought this mug from Costco many months ago and was so pleased with the product that I gave many out as gifts. My only problem is that I did not buy a spare to keep. My mug has fallen several times and still works fine. I have been looking for a spare to keep and have had difficulty finding another. Costco no longer carries it. It is a good mug and I do recommend it.
