Cold in 1 hour January 29, 2010 If At First You Don't Succeed (Michigan) I bought the Contigo Extreme travel mug because I wanted a durable, no-drip, handle-mug that was well insulated. I bought it yesterday and took it back today because it was SO poorly insulated that my coffee was cold in less than 30 minutes (trip from home to work). I absolutely love my Nissan Thermax... except for the fact that it doesn't have a handle, the Thermax keeps coffee piping hot after three hours.. NO JOKE. They're both expensive, but I expected a lot more from the Contigo.
These mugs were good at first but... January 4, 2010 Joseph Llanos (Fresno, CA United States) Good at first but not after sometime. First the lids are incredibly hard to remove at times. Second, the rubber bottoms fall off, especially if there is a tight fit in your car carrier. Third they stink, yes they stink, the coffee, plus creme or whatever you put in it collects under the top flap inside the container. Guess what, it's almost impossible to get it clean and to keep that stink from returning. Try washing in a dishwasher, guess what, the thing will fall apart. The rubber handle ring will loosen, the bottom will fall off. The only thing that could make this mug worse is if it was made out of mercury or lead!? I wouldn't be surprised however, and I think I originally gave Contigo or its Starbucks counterpart a positive review, well I'm here to say I retract that!!!
Built well, but does not keep hot liquids warm beyond a few minutes April 14, 2009 Larry David (PA) Built well, but does not keep hot liquids warm beyond a few minutes, literally. Do not buy a foam insulated mug from this company. Contigo stated that this mug would keep coffee warm for one hour, try 10 minutes at best.
Great, but short lived. January 25, 2009 K. Moose When I got this mug, I absolutely loved it. The cap sealed on tightly - without any difficulty or leakage of coffee! It also could hold a larger amount of volume than other travel mugs I had used in the past. It also kept the coffee warm for considerably longer than other travel mugs I had used in the past (approximately 2 hours before it started to cool down).
However, it was short lived. I washed it by hand, took care of it, didn't let it fall or anything like that. Yet 4 to 5 months into it, the rubber seal from the cap had buckled out of place, and I could not get it to reattach. As a result, the seal wasn't good, and started to leak.
It was a fantastic mug while it lasted, but now I'm on to look for a travel mug that is more durable.
Great Mug December 6, 2008 W. N. (Los Angeles) Great spill proof coffee mug.. I take the mug on my kayak for 3-4 hours of ocean paddling. I like the carabiner handle, I just hook to a loop in a line and keep it right on my deck. I use them hard, the outside clear coating is chipping away, but that's not a problem.
I bought a pack at Costco over a year ago, one mug and one tumbler (no handle). Use them every day. They work great. I'm looking for at least one more.
I don't own a dishwasher so I've never had that issue. I used to have spills, but that was because I'd left the sipper cap ajar. It's black on black so it was hard to tell. (My fault but maybe a light color seal so if it isn't black it's loose?)
They keep my coffee reasonably warm, but they are definitely not thermos bottles. Best mug I've ever had.
